Android 4.0 for the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G is finally here. To initiate the download, press Menu > Settings > About Phone > HTC Software Updates > Check and follow the instructions to download and install the new build. The HTC Sensation 4G’s Android 4.0 update can downloaded over T-Mobile’s 3G/HSPA+ network, but we suggest connecting your phone over Wi-Fi to download the update a little faster.

Additionally, the Android 4.0 update for the T-Mobile HTC Amaze 4G is expected to become available for download beginning May 21. This new bit of information comes directly from T-Mobile’s PR agency this morning and will most likely be reflected on the Amaze 4G support page later today.

As with the other Android 4.0 updates that HTC has been rolling out, users should expect quite a few new features in Ice Cream Sandwich with improvements to multi-tasking, face unlock, new browser capabilities, and access to Android 4.0 applications like Google’s Chrome browser.

New Android 4.0 features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked
  • Data usage controls
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life

The Android 4.0 update for the HTC Sensation is a lot later than what we were originally promised, but we’re sure T-Mobile’s HTC Sensation 4G owners are ecstatic to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update with the new HTC Sense 3.6 UI improvements.

So what are you waiting for? Download the Android 4.0 update for the Sensation 4G and be sure to let us know how the process goes and what you think of all the new features. We’re curious to know if the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G will receive the same performance improvements we’ve seen on other HTC devices which have been updated to Android 4.0.

After months of delays and broken promises, T-Mobile has finally made it official! The Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G will be available on May 16 – just two days from now. This new information comes from the HTC Sensation 4G’s support page on T-Mobile’s website, following news from the first week of May which claimed the Android 4.0 update would be available “very soon.

Once Wednesday rolls around, you can manually check for the Android 4.0.3 update on the HTC Sensation 4G. From your home screen, press Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check. T-Mobile is recommending that you have at least a 50% charge on your device to make sure your battery does not deplete during the update process.

To add to the good news, T-Mobile has updated the HTC Amaze 4G support page, stating its Android 4.0 update will be available in the “coming weeks.” We’re not sure how much longer Amaze 4G owners will actually have to wait for their Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we’re hoping T-Mobile makes it available before the end of the month.

Are any of you excited for the official Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G? Did any of you give up and buy a new phone or flash an unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to your Sensation?

On May 31, Virgin Mobile will launch the HTC EVO V 4G. The new HTC device is essentially last year’s HTC EVO 3D without Sprint’s branding. Virgin has kept the 3D display, dual cameras and the phone’s awkward design. While Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D is still running on Android 2.3, the EVO V 4G will debut with Android 4.0 and HTC Sense 3.6 – similar to what HTC’s been delivering to its older devices as they are updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. Virgin Mobile and HTC have not released details about the phone’s processor, but we assume the EVO V 4G is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qaulcomm S3 chip.

HTC EVO V 4G specifications

  • 5MP camera with video and 3D HD imaging, and 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • 4.3-inch qHD touchscreen
  • 1730 mAh battery (up to six hours of talk time)
  • 1GB RAM/4GB ROM
  • External micro SD memory card slot up to 32GB (8GB card included)
  • HDMI and Bluetooth-capable
  • Dual microphones for noise suppression
  • Digital compass, G-Sensor, Light sensor, GPS/AGPS
  • 4G WiMAX technology

The HTC EVO V 4G will cost $299.99 and can be used with Virgin’s Beyond Talk plans which start at just $35 a month for 300 minutes, unlimited messaging and 2.5GB of data at 4G speeds. According to Virgin, the launch of the HTC EVO V 4G proves ”that customers don’t have to sacrifice technology to choose a prepaid smartphone that keeps them connected.”

Virgin Mobile’s lineup may not include any true flagship Android devices, but the HTC EVO V 4G is certainly a great option if you don’t mind living with last year’s technology.

The HTC DROID Incredible 4G may be right around the corner, but if you’re looking to save some cash and want a new phone today, the HTC Rezound might be exactly what you’re looking for. Both Verizon and Amazon Wireless have dropped the price of the HTC Rezound to just $49.99 with a new two year contract, making it the cheapest phone with a dual-core processor and a 720p HD display.

The best part about the new price is that Verizon may release the Rezound’s Android 4.0.3 update by the end of this week which should boost performance and improve battery life (one of the major points of contention for current customers). The Ice Cream Sandwich update comes with dozens of new features and a redesigned Sense 3.6 skin which is a slight improvement over its current iteration. For a closer look at the device, check out a full HTC Rezound review.

Is $49.99 a fair price for a dual-core phone with a 720p display, 32GB of included storage (16 GB internal and 16GB microSD card), $100 pair of Beat Audio headphones and a fairly decent 8 megapixel camera?

T-Mobile has officially confirmed that Android 4.0 will soon make its way to the HTC Amaze 4G and HTC Sensation 4G smartphones. An expected upgrade date was not provided in T-Mobile’s support system, though we expect T-Mobile wouldn’t make an announcement before a fairly imminent launch date.

The announcement comes by way of updated support documents on T-Mobile’s site, suggesting HTC is putting the finishing touches on the Android 4 updates for these two devices, and is nearly ready to submit the final upgrade files to T-Mobile. As you’re likely aware, the update will contain HTC’s Sense UI 3.6, which runs atop the core Android 4.0 platform. Sense has been updated to bring multiple performance and stylistic enhancements to the platform.

The wait will soon be over, T-Mobile HTC faithful, and you’ll soon be seeing the latest and greatest in Android versions hit your devices very soon. We will, of course, keep you appraised as we learn more from T-Mobile and HTC.

Android 4.0 is breathing new life into HTC phones across the globe with improvements to the OS and updated version of HTC Sense. We all love the new features packed into Ice Cream Sandwich, but if you own an HTC phone that is scheduled for an Android 4.0 update you might be more thankful for the phone’s performance improvements. A few weeks ago, we reported that the HTC Velocity’s benchmark numbers spiked after receiving the Android 4.0 update. Now we’ve received confirmation that it was not an isolated case.

The Android 4.0 update for the HTC Vivid was pushed out last week by AT&T and delivers significant performance improvements as well. VentureBeat ran the HTC Vivid through a half dozen different benchmarks and found performance improvements across the board. The biggest jump was in the HTC Vivid’s Sunspider 9.1 (Javascript benchmark that processes the coding language as fast as devices can manage). It showed a 66 percent speed increase over Android 2.3.

Since the HTC Vivid is skinned with Sense 3.6, which customizes many of the features and applications, it’s hard to say if the new skin or the updated version of Android should be credited for the increase in handset performance. Either way, we’re hoping that all Android 4.0 updates for all manufacturers show similar improvements.

Here we go again. It seems like every time we’ve written a story about HTC this week, it had something to do with Android 4.0. This time around, the HTC Rezound is getting in on the Ice cream Sandwich action with a leaked Android 4.0 update which includes HTC Sense 3.6 and updated radios. There’s no guarantee that this will be the final build that Verizon and HTC will be pushing out to the HTC Rezound in the near future, but we are hearing that this build is a lot more stable than previous leaks.

In order to flash the update (including the new radios) to your HTC Rezound, you will need to have a completely stock device. Those who have a custom recovery or have used the HTC bootloader unlock tool will need to flash a modified build of the leak which is already rooted. If you own the HTC Rezound and want to flash the leaked Android 4.0 update to your phone, click on the source link below for the files and detailed instructions. Don’t forget, flashing a leaked Android build to your phone can be dangerous and may void your warranty.

We’ve known that the HTC Rezound would be updated to Android 4.0 from the day it was announced. We’re not sure how much longer HTC and Verizon will need to finish up their testing, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Android 4.0 OTA update for the Rezound showed up during the first few weeks of April.

Do you think AT&T will push out the Android 4.0 update to the Vivid next, or will Verizon’s Rezound owners get it first?

With all the new phones expected to go on sale this spring, you may be tempted to ditch your old phone for something a little more cutting edge. But if you own an HTC phone that’s expected to receive an update to Android 4.0 (check out our official HTC Android 4.0 update list), you should be pleased to hear that the new update with HTC Sense 3.6 could deliver improved performance.

Yesterday we posted a video that showed off the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Velocity, which mentioned that HTC Sense 3.6 was a lot smoother than previous iterations. Now Engadget has posted some benchmark scores showing a significant improvement in the HTC Sensation XE’s 3D graphics performance after it was updated to Android 4.0. As we’ve mentioned countless times, benchmark scores should always be taken with a grain of salt, but these latest numbers do confirm what we’ve been hearing from those who have received the Android 4.0 update from HTC.

Sense 3.0 Sense 3.6
Quadrant (v2) 2,097 2,213
Linpack (single-thread) 54.05 45.91
Linpack (multi-thread) 75.4 56.79
Nenamark1 (fps) 46.4 60.7
Nenamark2 (fps) 24.9 41.2
Neocore 61.1 61.1
SunSpider 9.1 (ms, lower numbers are better) 3,366 2,020
Vellamo 1,043 1,562
GLBenchmark – Egypt 24fps 46fps

There’s no guarantee that the Android 4.0 update for all HTC’s phones will produce the same results, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on your feedback once more updates start rolling out.

The first Android 4.0 update for an HTC phone is finally here! Today, HTC is making good on its promised of releasing the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Sensation and Sensation XE by rolling out the update to handset owners in Germany and a few Nordic countries. As expected , the Android 4.0 update is accompanied by HTC Sense 3.6 which features a few UI tweaks to accommodate new features included in the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Now that the update is officially rolling out, we should see the update start popping up in other countries over the next few weeks. The HTC Sensation 4G from T-Mobile USA is also expected to receive the Android 4.0 update before the end of March, so keep a close eye out for an update notification over the next few weeks.
